Photo Showcase- B.W. Senior Pictures

I've been absent for awhile.

I went through coffee detox last week. The whole week was a fog. I took a lot of naps. My head throbbed for days. But it was worth it. Officially off it and feeling good.

One bonus of the detox is I feel I have a little more creative energy. I'm ready to create new things and tackle old projects that have been sitting around. One negative drawback- I am definitely eating more food than ever and need to get a handle on it.

So hopefully you will see some more interesting posts in the near future.

For now- I finally got my pictures all done and am finally caught up!

Enjoy my nephew's senior pictures.

Maxi Skirt

I've had some pretty cool fabric since last summer just calling my name to make something with it. I meant to make a skirt last summer but never got to it.

I bought it for a couple of dollars at an estate sale that I talked about here.

And then I even posted a picture of the fabric in this post. I had plans to make the skirt but was working on a huge upholstery project that took up all my time.

So this weekend I finally got it done...well...er...almost done.

The fabric is a stretchy jersey and is striped. I wanted to somehow sew it so the stripes came together in a v shape in a centered front seam. It took me sooo long to work it out. I ended up just jumping in and trying it and somehow it worked.

Here is how it looks.

Sorry for the poor lighting. It was late.
I say almost finished because I still need to hem the bottom.

Are maxi skirts supposed to skim the floor? What is a good length?

For those interested in photography-

Audrey Woulard is an amazing children's photographer based out of Chicago. Tomorrow around noon she is putting up a post on Facebook (for a limited time) with 7 steps we can use to get amazingly sharp images like hers. Look her up if you're interested!

Sweatshirt Makeover

I've had quite a day.

I started going through detox today.

Detox from caffeine. I hate being dependent on it so I am cutting it out. My body is rebelling against me. I've had a dull headache all day and at times much worse than dull.

I even forgot I had Bible Study starting tonight and got there for the last ten minutes.

Needless to say, I haven't been very productive at all. But I did have a productive weekend (when I was still caffeine driven).

I bought a strange looking sweatshirt from Goodwill a while back. It was the right color on a Saturday sale and only ended up being $1.50. I knew it would be a future project some day.

That day came this weekend.

It has three quarter length sleeves. It's a charcoal grey (one of my favorite colors) and very comfy.

To start I removed the collar to give it a wider neck line.

Then I took a little square of some scrap fabric to become a pocket.  I folded over and hemmed the top of my pocket and I also ironed to get the shape I wanted.

Then I just pinned it in place and sewed around the edges.

It was dark by the time I was finished so it was hard to get a good photo.
This is the best I could get.

I don't think Target is gonna offer me a fashion line to work on or anything but I like it.
Tell me about something you refashioned or put your own spin on!

Great Fall Flicks

This weekend marks the official beginning of Fall. The temperature will be dropping soon, so what better to do then cozy up and watch a good movie. I am going to share with you some of my favorite Fall flicks. You might think I'm strange but I can't stand to watch in out-of-season movie. I can't watch any kind of Christmas movie from about mid January through August. Even September is pushing it a little. Just like I wouldn't want to watch The Sandlot, My Girl, Grease, The Man in the Moon, or Fried Green Tomatoes right now. That would be preposterous.

So here are some of my favorites to kick off the Fall season-

 (bad language)

I could go on and on and on because Fall is my favorite season and there are a lot of great movies out there. But these are just a few to get you started.
Have a great weekend!

Couch & Pictures

I'm not sure if anyone noticed the new piece of furniture from this post. There wasn't a picture of the whole thing. So here it is. We finally brought our couch out of my in-laws' garage. We only had a pair of chairs in this room and were lacking in seating. For some reason we seem to congregate in this room more and would try to pile into the chairs together or the boys would end up on the floor. This is a nice solution to our problem. The couch is very old and I bought it at a garage sale from an acquaintance for $1.50 a few years ago. I still need to work on the right configuration for the room.

I finally got my sister's family pictures done. Now to get my nephew's senior pictures done!

Thanks for looking!

Lake Ann Simulcast

I went to the Beth Moore Simulcast once again this year. And once again I was blown away.

I love Beth Moore and I love Lake Ann Camp. How could I lose?!

Friday was a blast. We got to do The Leap which involved climbing a 33 foot telephone pole. We had delicious food and bottom-less cups of hot chocolate (it was cold!). We went on the tram tour and got to hear about their vision for the future of Lake Ann and a little about its past. We got to hear comedian Daren Streblow and then eat delicious snacks.

The Simulcast on Saturday was amazing and challenging and just what I was needing to hear. It was a perfect trip! I can't wait to go next year!

(Where the old hotel used to sit)

(We stopped at my dad's to get some apples)

Perfect!
