Weekend Fun

This past weekend was very busy but fun.

We had two days of baseball at a tournament in Galesburg. Our two teams didn't do too well but it was decent weather and good practice.

We got a little bit of sun, a glove stolen and some treats we don't get very often (fast food).

Apparently we haven't warned our kids of the dangers of smoking or smoking combined with sleeping. (It's candy)

I got to spend the afternoon at the Allegan Flea Market on Sunday. Love that place!

And Monday was busiest with an early morning for me volunteering at our church's pancake breakfast. That was followed by our oldest son's first march in a parade. And then a family cookout with my in-laws in the afternoon.
Whew! What a weekend!

This weekend I have plans to stay home and be a little productive but relax some too!

Five more days of school!!!!

Estate Sales Galore

It is the season for Estate and Garage Sales. This week is starting off with a bang!

Here are the Estate Sales in this area and what I love/want from each.

A sale in Muskegon today and tomorrow-

I want these outdoor chairs
Love this dresser (that is stored in the garage!). And the frame hanging above it.
 I want these old crates!

This Spring Lake sale that runs Wednesday and Thursday-

Love this drum table.
I want all of these items!

Antique hardware makes my head spin with ideas!

Then there is this sale in Grand Rapids that runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday-

Love this cedar chest.
Lots of old boxes and crates have caught my eye recently.
I want an antique pie safe.

There is another sale in Wyoming on just Friday and Saturday-

I'm really only interested in the photography related items.

This last one is not in this area but a town called Watervliet and runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday-

I'm kind of interested in this kitchen island. I think I could make it cute. They also had listed, but not pictured, an electric dog fence. I'm thinking we may need one of those.

There is an amazing looking one in Rockwood, MI. I didn't list it because it is about 150 miles away. But it sure looks great.

What do you think? There is some good ones, right?

If anyone goes to any of these or hears about any others, let me know!

Bring On The Weekend

1. This weather is crazy. Air and heat running in the same week!

2. I love Memorial Weekend. It signals the start of summer. Eight more days!

3. I have 26 mosquito bites. JJ has 49. Not really but it feels like it. He made me take a picture of one.

4. Yum. I'm trying to eat more vegetables. The boys weren't too crazy about it. I added Quinoa.

5. I was able to pick some more asparagus. Even after mowing over the area where it's growing. I should get even more before mowing again.

6. We are heading to our first (of many) baseball tournaments this weekend instead of going to my dad's house like we used to every year before travel baseball. This is me trying to have a good attitude. Trying.

7. I started an exercise program and every muscle in my body hurts. Which makes me question why in the world I am doing it. Haven't come up with a great answer yet.

8. This is what I want my backyard to look like one day.

9. For those interested in house updates I apologize for the lack of house updates. There has been no updating going on. But lots of projects planned for the summer!

10. Everyone have a great holiday weekend!

Homeschool T & F Day

We had our homeschool track and field day today.

It was lots of fun. Both of my youngest boys got lots of ribbons. JJ did great for his first time competing. His only worry was where I would be. He wanted me to stay close.

Towards the end the rain really started coming down and conditions became almost unbearable. But we still got this statement from JJ- "This was the funnest day ever!"

Here are some photos of my superstars.

They were cold and wet but very happy. What a great day!

ER Visit

This was not how I planned on spending my evening. Especially with my hubby out of state on a work trip.

Around 4 or 5 this afternoon my youngest started complaining about his stomach hurting. He said he needed to eat supper. By the time I got supper ready he was in tears about the pain. He could barely walk. His eyes were glassy and sick looking. He didn't touch his food except for a fruit and spinach smoothie I made.

Right after we ate we had to rush off to get my oldest to his baseball game. Thankfully the middle two didn't have a game. JJ was crying in pain on the way to the game.

I probed him with questions- "Where does it hurt?", "Do you need to poop?", "Do you feel like you need to throw up?".

I decided to take him to the Holland Emergency Room. The ball field was pretty close to it. I called my mom-in-law and explained the situation and asked if she'd come to the field to stay with the other boys. She's a lifesaver!

I had to carry JJ into the hospital. Even that, I could tell, hurt him so badly.

In my mind I prayed and tried not to worry. But I couldn't help it. I began imagining lots of different diagnosis it could be- appendicitis, cancer, diabetes.... All of which are things that run in my family.

But then I tried to imagine it being something as simple as gas.

They took a urine sample and X-rayed his stomach. Then we waited. I just sat and held his hand and we prayed together.

I could see he was starting to look a little better. They had given him some pain medication to help him be more comfortable.

The doctor came back in to tell us the results. He was filled with....poop. Yep. Even though he had gone earlier that day he was filled with poop and that was likely the cause of his pain.

I was a little embarrassed but mostly very, very thankful. Evidently when I asked him at home if he had to poop, he didn't feel like he had to then. This has never happened to him before and I thought going to get it checked out was better than waiting it out. I'm glad we did.

And then while we were waiting to check out of the hospital he informed me he had to go to the bathroom. He made a huge deposit and I could understand why he was in so much pain! He was a new man after that.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Weekend Work

We actually got some things accomplished this weekend. It was nice being outside with the beautiful weather we had.

I cleared a lot of garbage from our yard so we could mow a bigger area. We have so much trash back there. It was a dumping ground evidently. But that is what farmers do. My dad has a few dump areas on his property. I need to rent a dumpster just to get rid if it all. My neighbor told me there is two trucks in the pond! When the water was lower last summer you could see the top of one of them.

Anyway. I digress.

While cleaning up the garbage I saw lots of bugs. Bugs of all shapes and sizes. Especially a lot of ants. Those ants are now making their way into my house (which could be a whole separate post).

I also saw lots of these.

The boys had a great time with them and then let them go. I'd rather have snakes than mice quite honestly. So I'm okay with them.

I also saw a creature that I didn't recognize that came out of a wood pile. It looked like this but smaller.

I had to google it to discover we have weasels living in our backyard. They were actually kind of cute. I don't mind them back there because they are keeping the bunny population down. But if we ever want to keep chickens they will have to go.

Before we did our big mow I picked all the edible asparagus that was growing back there.

It was delicious.

We also trimmed up a few trees in the front yard. One tree we might have trimmed too excessively. I will have to take a picture and post asking your opinion.

What about you guys? Did you have a productive weekend or just sit back and enjoy the weather?

The DSLR Difference

My DSLR has been sitting in my camera bag alone and neglected for quite some time.

Sure, it would come out for a quick shot every once in awhile. But not very often.

I've been wanting to use it more in my every day. I want to get back into my photography. The more I use it the better I learn my camera and the better shots I can get. It's a fact. But I'm lazy.

It isn't the most convenient thing to carry around. But the shots I get with it do not compare to anything else.

Here are some things I've captured lately.

Must.Bring.It.Everywhere.

On the bright side, it would help build up my arm muscles!

Cute nephew pictures and fun family pictures coming soon!
