This was not how I planned on spending my evening. Especially with my hubby out of state on a work trip.
Around
4 or 5 this afternoon my youngest started complaining about his stomach
hurting. He said he needed to eat supper. By the time I got supper
ready he was in tears about the pain. He could barely walk. His eyes
were glassy and sick looking. He didn't touch his food except for a
fruit and spinach smoothie I made.
Right after we ate
we had to rush off to get my oldest to his baseball game. Thankfully the
middle two didn't have a game. JJ was crying in pain on the way to the
game.
I probed him with questions- "Where does it hurt?", "Do you need to poop?", "Do you feel like you need to throw up?".
I
decided to take him to the Holland Emergency Room. The ball field was
pretty close to it. I called my mom-in-law and explained the situation
and asked if she'd come to the field to stay with the other boys. She's a
lifesaver!
I had to carry JJ into the hospital. Even that, I could tell, hurt him so badly.
In
my mind I prayed and tried not to worry. But I couldn't help it. I
began imagining lots of different diagnosis it could be- appendicitis,
cancer, diabetes.... All of which are things that run in my family.
But then I tried to imagine it being something as simple as gas.
They took a urine sample and X-rayed his stomach. Then we waited. I just sat and held his hand and we prayed together.
I could see he was starting to look a little better. They had given him some pain medication to help him be more comfortable.
The doctor came back in to tell us the results. He was filled with....poop. Yep. Even though he had gone earlier that day he was filled with poop and that was likely the cause of his pain.
I was a little embarrassed but mostly very, very thankful. Evidently when I asked him at home if he had to poop, he didn't feel like he had to then. This has never happened to him before and I thought going to get it checked out was better than waiting it out. I'm glad we did.
And then while we were waiting to check out of the hospital he informed me he had to go to the bathroom. He made a huge deposit and I could understand why he was in so much pain! He was a new man after that.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
